Dr. Jae Kun Shim directs Neuromechanics Research Core at University of Maryland (http://www.sph.umd.edu/neuromechanics). He is a former recipient of two honorary awards, Promising Young Scientist Award of International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) and Young Scientist Award of American Society of Biomechanics (ASB). His research is focused on neural and mechanical mechanisms of human hand and digit actions and locomotion, as well as their applications to rehabilitation, medicine, and ergonomics. He has published research articles in a wide spectrum of scientific journals such as Journal of Biomechanics, Journal of Applied Biomechanics, Scientific Reports, PlosOne, Journal of Neurophysiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Experimental Brain Research, Ergonomics, Robotics, etc. Dr. Shim serves as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience and Associate Editor of Journal of Applied Biomechanics. Recently, Dr. Shim has been developing “Translational Neuromechanics Research” to help lower-limb amputees, stroke patients, and injured musicians. His research has been supported by National Institute of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), Maryland Industrial Partnerships, National Research Foundation (KRF) of Korea, Samsung Electronics, Under Armour, New Balance, etc.
