How Comcast uses AI/ML to Transform its Entertainment and Customer Service Experience

Abstract

In this talk we will describe how AI/ML are used in many applications within Comcast and specifically how we use machine learning across our Entertainment and CX product lines to improve the customer experience in the home with voice remote, our content discovery algorithms and via the Xfinity Assistant.

Biographies
Dr. Jan Neumann is Vice President of Machine Learning at Comcast. There he leads the Applied AI & Discovery team for Comcast. The team is responsible for the Voice, Content Discovery and Media Analytics capabilities of Comcast's and Sky's services, the AI/ML, Product Data and Experimentation/Targeting platform initiatives and the AI/ML efforts for Comcast's Connected Living and Customer Care products and other enterprise initiatives. Dr. Neumann received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland in 2004.

Dr. Ferhan Ture is a Technical Fellow with the Comcast Applied AI & Discovery group. He specializes in speech and natural language processing and led the teams responsible for these platforms at Comcast. The ML technology supports a variety of spoken and typed product experiences such as the X1/Flex, Sky Q, Sky Glass, XClass TV and the Xfinity Assistant. Dr. Ture received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland in 2013.
