Vice President for Research Laurie Locascio and Senior Vice President & Provost Mary Ann Rankin (College Park) and Chief Enterprise & Economic Development Officer & Vice President Jim Hughes and Chief Academic & Research Officer & Senior Vice President Bruce Jarrell (UMB) invite you to attend a special workshop on Research Impact.  These workshops are open to researchers and administrators, as well as research development officers, technology commercialization and economic development staff, and communications staff, at both the Baltimore and College Park campuses.

The session will:

  • Define Research Impact and explain why it is important in an academic context
  • Identify different types of Research Impact and help researchers understand how their research fits in
  • Explain how to develop impact case studies and demonstrate why they are important
  • Show pathways to broader impact, and offer guidance on how to apply this knowledge toward planning for grant proposals
  • Provide context on Research Impact in other areas across the globe

Presenters:

Steven Hardy, Head of Research Outcomes, Financial & Business Services, University of Nottingham, UK
Expertise: research outcomes and impact, international research development, research equipment and facilities, knowledge transfer partnership activity

Chris Mellor, Researcher Engagement Manager, Universitas 21 (U21)
Expertise: administration of the Researcher Engagement Cluster, working with a range of groups to develop activities to enable researchers to engage across the U21 network, previous experience with monitoring research impact, including writing impact case studies

There is no fee to attend this session, but seating for the event is limited.  Please note that those who register and fail to show up, or do not cancel at least 48 hours prior to the class, will be charged a $25 fee.
