Robotics Student Seminar

Student Paper Writing Workshop

Dr. Pratap Tokekar

Assistant Professor, Computer Science Department

Abstract
It is important for graduate students to publish papers about the amazing work they are doing. Not only does it give their research exposure to the larger technical community, but it facilitates collaboration and useful insight. However, many graduate students struggle with the logistics of publishing a conference or journal paper.

Have you ever wondered if your current research progress is more suitable to a journal or conference paper? Or, how to craft the "research story" for the publication? If you've ever had questions about how to convery the fundamental science or technology impact of your work, or about paper formatting, this seminar is for you. The Maryland Robotics Center is sponsoring the Student Paper Writing Workshop to create a forum wherein graduate students may get the answer to their most important questions about publications.

About the Robotics Student Seminars

The Robotics Student Seminars at the University of Maryland College Park are a student-run series of talks given by current robotics students.

The purpose of these talks is to:

  • Encourage interaction between Robotics students from different subfields;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to be aware of and possibly get involved in the research their peers are conducting;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to receive feedback on their current research;
  • Provide speaking opportunities for Robotics students.
