The online application is closed as of Feb 15, 2013.
We have extended the deadline for letters of recommendation to Feb 22, 2013. Your recommenders should still be able to upload letters at the links emailed to them. This is a common application form for several REU programs at Maryland. Please select 'Robotics (ISR)' in Section 4 to apply to the Miniature Robotics REU and for robotics-specific instructions.
Special note: This program is funded by the National Science Foundation, a federal agency. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply and to participate.
The application requests basic personal and academic information in addition to the following:
1. A scanned copy of your official transcript. An unofficial transcript is okay if you don't have access to your official transcript.
2. Two letters of reference (at least one should be from a professor in engineering, science or math). An email will be sent directly to your references with a link for uploading a reference letter.
3. An essay (1 page max, single spaced, 12 pt font, 1" margins) on why you are interested in participating in this program (career and academic goals for example) including one paragraph on how you feel that you can contribute to the diversity of experiences among student participants. This is the SAME thing as the "statement of purpose" requested on the application website!
